I am so excited to be participating in Armchair BEA this year. I really hoped to go to New York and be there in person this year but being 8 months pregnant, flying or driving that far was just not going to happen this year!
(For more information about Armchair BEA, click the image above)
Today is the introduction posts and I am excited to learn about the other bloggers that are participating this year. Here are the five questions I chose to answer:
1. Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging?
My name is Shannon and Books Devoured has been around for about 18 months. I originally was a loyal reader to a blog that is not around any more (Dirty Sexy Books) and after reading and interacting with her I decided I wanted to be a part of the community too. I started researching and stumbled upon Parajunkee's BB101 posts. I read all of the old ones and started my blog that day!
2. Tell us one non-book-related thing that everyone reading your blog may not know about you.
If you are new to the blog you might not know that I am pregnant with my third child! My daughter Addisyn is due July 14th! I am excited but also a bit nervous still! I hope to get pretty far ahead with my posts and reviews so that I don't miss too much time blogging when she is born.
3. What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)?
Even though it is not the most popular feature I really love doing Books Devoured Jr. It has been a fun way to get my children involved in my blog. Also, I really enjoy some of the middle grade titles as well. I plan to keep that feature even if interest is low. I am also working on getting Cookin the Books going on a more regular schedule. I did not get a lot of comments on the first one I did but I have a passion for food and cookbooks so I will keep that one around for a while if I can.
4. Which is your favorite post that you have written that you want everyone to read?
Oooooo, it is hard to choose just one. I would probably choose one of the early posts I did with a feature called Rookie Book Bloggers Journey. I wrote a post about my EPIC BLOGGER FAIL!
Believe it or not, I have never once thought about deleting all that and pretending it didn't happen. I learned a lot in my early fumbling around blogging days and I don't want to get to the point that I forget those lessons.
5. Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How?
Yes! I had only read one book/series that was considered YA before I started my blog, Twilight. I liked Twilight but I just did not realize that there was a whole genre of books like that. As soon as I started my blog though, I stumbled across so many other bloggers that were mainly reading YA. I wanted to know what all the fuss was about so I picked up a few titles and ended up loving them! I read a LOT of YA last year. I am trying to divide my time better between genres this year though. I consider myself a genre jumper and I plan to stay that way!
That’s it for me, I can’t wait to visit everyone else!

We will forgive you if you miss some blogging over the birth of your child! Good luck! Enjoy those little ones...mine are all grown up and it happens so fast! Happy BEA!
ReplyDeleteThanks Annette! I am really getting excited! You are right, time goes by too fast!
DeleteCongratulations on baby #3!! (and I totally think you should start rereading HP to her- never too young to start the love for all things Potter!)
ReplyDeleteI'm super interested in Books Devoured Jr... what a cool concept. I have a zillion children lit books (all ages) from teaching- my middle school shelves are expanding since those are the grades I teach now.
So glad to "meet" your through ArmChair BEA & can't wait to stalk your old posts :)
Thank you Jenna! I do Books Devoured Jr. on Mondays usually. My son often writes those reviews. I think it is good to get the opinion of a reader that is the age the book was intended for. Though I love reading some of the books myself!
DeleteCongratulations on the baby!! :) That is VERY VERY exciting. I don't have kids yet but I love 'em when they come to visit me. But, then I can send them home with Mom and sleep all night ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this book - gorgeous!
Armchair BEA @ the Brunette Librarian
Thanks so much! HA! I would love to be able to send them somewhere else so I could get some sleep sometimes too!!
DeleteCongrats on #3!! I like the idea of featuring children's books. I hope to do that with my kids, someday.
ReplyDeleteKate @ Ex Libris
Thank you! I love sharing the love of reading with my kids! I am sure that you will have a great time doing that in the future too!
DeleteSounds like you have a busy house! Congrats on the upcoming baby!
ReplyDeleteI really do! Homeschooling takes up tons of time but we love it! Thanks so much! We are excited to add another member to the family!
DeleteCongrats on the baby! I hope she grows up really well :) I think it's fun to spice up a book blog with a little bit of cooking i'd love the thought. I also liked Twilight but I think after all the book comparison from other books I got tired of it. Team Jacob still XD

Thanks!!
DeleteI'm glad to see someone interesting in the cooking stuff! I can not wait to feature the next cookbook that I have!
Love it! Congrats on the baby, sweetie! :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Victoria!
DeleteI hope the rest of your pregnancy goes smoothly and that your baby is born healthy.
ReplyDeleteI loved your epic fail post. I love seeing authors acting classy.
Thank you! That is very thoughtful! I really hope it does too! I had a bit of a rough start at first but things seem to be going smoothly right now!
DeleteWasn't Lisa just the greatest about the whole thing?!
That Epic Blogger Fail post is hilarious. Don't ever delete it. It is well written and discusses mistakes ALL bloggers make, whether they admit it or not.
ReplyDeleteThanks Violette! I really have never considered taking it down. Being new to the community is such a learning curve! All anyone can do is just admit mistakes and move on and try to do better. It still makes me laugh to this day!
DeleteThanks for stopping by my blog . . . it's been fun to "meet" new bloggers. And yes, it is fun to explore books together with your kids. I booktalk a lot of them to my girls, and not all of them stick. It's especially interesting to get their take on the older Caldecott books in the Caldecott Challenge . . . some of them have zero appeal to today's readers and others stand the test of time! All the best with your newest addition to your family. As I reach out to try more YA, I'll look forward to your recommendations!
ReplyDeleteI am curious to see how my kids react to some of the older winners too. That might be a fun project to start with them next year, reading through all the winners.
DeleteCongratulations on Baby #3! I have three, and sometimes it's hard to be outnumbered, but I'd do it again. You can find my intro post here: http://bookslistslife.blogspot.com/2012/06/armchair-bea-introduction-lisa-books.html
ReplyDeleteThank you Lisa, we are really excited!
DeleteI'll have to check out your epic fail post :)
ReplyDeleteTwilight certainly opened the floodgates. I think for me, I assumed all YA was like Twilight because it's all I saw on Borders endcaps. Reaching in a little further I found gems like John Green and Sarah Dessen. I didn't know enough about the genre to know what other big names were out there. Any book that brings out a passion for young people to read is fine with me. Sooner or later they'll find their way to the gems.
Congrats on your baby girl! I'm amazed at women who keep it all going - parenting, blogging, writing. Best wishes!
When you are in the mood for a laugh, check it out!
DeleteJohn Green and Sarah Dessen are two great additions to the YA community. I love them both!
Thanks so much! Luckily I don't have a job outside the home so that helps with the time management some. Though homeschooling takes up tons of time, we love it!
Thanks for stopping by.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your pregnancy! Having a baby certainly has changed the amount of reading time I've gotten but everyone puts up with my random posting schedule.
I'll have to check out the blogger fail post. I wouldn't be surprised if I'm still doing things all wrong ;)
Thanks so much! I really have no clue how things will go once the baby is born. I am hoping to keep something close to a normal schedule but I am not going to let myself stress about it!
DeleteI doubt you have done this particular fail but it is still funny to read. =)
I think giving birth is more important than BEA sometimes.. maybe ;o)
ReplyDeleteAnd hey, we all make mistakes! Yours is funny, but it's all good!
Mickey @ imabookshark
PS - Come visit my introduction? Thanks!
Very true but I am being very pouty about the whole thing! HA! Next year I am going to do my best to get there though!
DeleteI remember Dirty Sexy books! I miss it :( Thanks for bringing back fond memories of a wonderful book blog :)
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice to meet you! Congratulations on that new baby! Armchair BEA @ the Brunette Librarian
I miss DSB too!! Rebecca is fabulous!
DeleteCongratulations on your pregnancy!!!! That's so exciting! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
DeleteCongrats! Babies are so much fun! My daughter is a July baby - great month for babies.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating!
Here's my intro
Valerie
StuckInBooks
Thanks! I am getting excited since it is so close!!
DeleteCongrats on your baby news! Nice to *meet* you too. ;) Great post!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen!
DeleteCongrats on Baby #3! She's so close to being here! Definitely keep any MG posts going; I adore MG but rarely find others who do (or are at least public about it). I want to review more MG, I just haven't -- which will change in the next months since 6 of the 8 books I have out from the library right now are MG ones haha. Also, your blogger "fail" made me laugh! I would have been mortified, but you handled it so well. I'm glad you can look back and laugh on it :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Armchair BEA and lovely to meet you!
Thank you Ashley!
DeleteSo glad to see support for the middle grade posts! My son is loving them and I love reading what he has to say about them. I am reading some younger MG with my daughter who is 7 and that has been so much fun too!
I was SO Mortified! All I could do was own up to my mistake. I am forever grateful for the way that she handled the situation though. That taught me more than anything else.
I'm so glad to meet you as well!
Hi Shannon! It's nice to meet you. Congrats on baby 3. Thanks for visiting me today.
ReplyDeleteHi Brooke, thanks so much!
DeleteOoh, I hope you are having a comfortable pregnancy :-) Thanks for visiting my blog. I'm glad to have found you here!
ReplyDeleteHi Aarti, Thanks so much! It started out pretty rough but me and the baby are both doing well now. I am getting excited that her due date is so close now.
DeleteAh, I love your blog, so I'm super glad you're participating!
ReplyDeleteFirst, I don't know if I've said it before, so congrats on Addisyn! That's such a pretty name.
Also, I love your Books Devoured Jr. posts. I think it's so cool that you have your kids involved.
Thanks for stopping by Booktacular!
Thank you Danie! That means a lot!!
DeleteThanks! I really like the name, I am excited to meet her!
I am so pleased to know that others like the BDJ posts! I love doing the ones that I write and I especially love the ones from my kids!
Hey there, Shannon!
ReplyDeleteHad such a fun time reading EPIC BLOGGER FAIL!!! Too funny! I have a goal to start reading more YA and am so excited to have a new blog as a reading reference :)
Thanks Rebecca! I am happy to share my experience. I know I am not the only one who will ever mess up and I hope to show others that it is not the end of the world. We should just learn and move on!
DeleteBooks Devoured Jr. is actually one of my favorite features of yours! I lurk over in the feeds reading it. I'll try to remember to give you more comment love!
ReplyDeleteI also love that you have embraced the journey of blogging in Epic Blogger Fail. Reading it next!
Thanks Rie! I am so glad to know that! Peyton has a review coming up next Monday and I plan to keep it going through the summer!
DeleteThat fail was pretty epic but pretty funny!!
Love your Epic Fail post! Sounds like something I would do. Also love that you responded to the author in such a humble, humerous and gracious way. Thanks for being brave enough to share.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tami! It is embarrassing but I have to share it. I learned so much from the whole thing, I think others might get something out of it too!
DeleteLisa was amazing about the whole thing. I learned the most from her about how to react to other people on the web. She could have been really nasty to me about the whole thing as I was in the wrong, but she chose to be gracious and forgiving instead. Such an inspiration!
Genre jumper! Love the term. Yep. That's me too. :)
ReplyDeleteNew to your blog via Armchair BEA intro post links. Still working my way through them all. I'm hoping to meet some great new bloggers through all of the links. ;) I'm a new follower to your blog AND i just read your EPIC BLOGGER FAIL post and I definitely think you need to keep it up. It's a great way to help new bloggers out, by learning from our little mistakes. :)
ReplyDeletePS I adore parajunkee's BB101 posts too! So informative and helpful!
