Synopsis:  (From Good Reads)

Kate Winters has won immortality.

But if she wants a life in the Underworld with Henry, she’ll have to fight for it.

Becoming immortal wasn’t supposed to be the easy part. Though Kate is about to be crowned Queen of the Underworld, she’s as isolated as ever. And despite her growing love for Henry, ruler of the Underworld, he’s becoming ever more distant and secretive. Then, in the midst of Kate’s coronation, Henry is abducted by the only being powerful enough to kill him: the King of the Titans.

As the other gods prepare for a war that could end them all, it is up to Kate to save Henry from the depths of Tartarus. But in order to navigate the endless caverns of the Underworld, Kate must enlist the help of the one person who is the greatest threat to her future.

Henry’s first wife, Persephone.

What Did I Think?

I really liked the first book in the series, The Goddess Test so I was excited to read Goddess Interrupted. I have mixed feelings about it though. I ended up giving this title a 3 because I wanted to give it a 2 for the characters drama and a 4 for plot; not because I thought the book as a whole was a 3. There are some things that I really liked and a couple of things that really bothered me.

What I liked:

Pretty much everything plot related. I think this was an interesting turn of events. Kate being forced to turn to Persephone for help is an incredibly uncomfortable thing. It of course makes for a great story. I liked that the King of Titans is being brought into play. I think it is a genius move to bring in something that could be more powerful that the Gods because it turns up the danger factor. I liked how the plot played out and I am curious to see what happens next.

What I did not like:

Kate's constant whining and self doubt. On one had I try to put myself in her position and understand her. On the other hand, I want to slap her and tell her to either accept what he told her or leave or at least shut up about it and give it some time. I literally skimmed over paragraphs of her constant freaking out. It was so unpleasant to read. Henry had some of the same irritating moments but his were more in the quiet brooding manner. There was no reason for him to act like he did so it was just frustrating to read. I think that the plot could have been pushed to the front more and the couples boring repetitive drama kept to a minimum.

Overall, I just feel conflicted. I love the story line but right now I am not a fan of either of the main characters. I felt that their whole drama was forced into a frustrating place. I think that because of the addition of the King of the Titans I am going to keep reading the series. I hope that there can be a bit more reasonable drama between Kate and Henry coming up.

BOTTOM LINE: The characters were both unlikable to me this time but the plot line was interesting.

  1. My thoughts exactly... I think I said something about wanting to go "Jersey Shores" on Kate in my review. She drove me nuts. Very Bella in New Moon.

I agree about the plot being the best thing in this book, but it still couldn't save the horrid characters. =( What about the cliffhanger ending? Now I really do want to read book 3 pronto. Hope it's better!

    1. I am glad to know that at least it is not just me! Kate was just awful for me this time. The Cliffhanger was awful! I think I had forgotten about it actually, lol. I must have blocked it out so I did not have to think about how long I have to wait for the next one!

  2. Oh noes!!! I want to love this one as much as I did the first one, but if there are character issues, it's going to end up as a 'meh' probably. I hate character issues. And the whining?! Reminds me of Bella, and I HATE Bella. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear.

Okay, gonna read it anyway, maybe smack them around a little bit and make myself feel better. :D

    1. Hey Ems~ I think Kate was Bella times a million in this one. I have never read a character that pouted and whined and freaked out this much in one book. It was just so agonizing to read for me. The Plot though was pretty fabulous and as The Flashlight Reader reminded me, the cliffhanger is OMG!!! So I am still in to read the next one but I might throw it if she whines so much in the next one!

  4. I am going to be reading the first one pretty soon. It sucks that you didn't like it as much as you wanted to. Since I haven't read the first one, I have no expectations either way, but I will keep your review in mind so I am not disappointed. Great review!

  5. Hmmmm...I started this last week and got about 20% in and had to put it down. I adored the first one, but Kate was just so annoying. O.o I'm not sure if I'll pick it back up.

    1. I don't think Kate gets any less annoying throughout. In fact, she may actually get worse. I will say that the end was shocking! It was enough to make me want to read the next one at least. =)
