The President's Vampire (Nathaniel Cade #2)

Details:

Title: The President’s Vampire
Author: Christopher Farnsworth
Publication Date: April 16th, 2011
Series: The President’s Vampire Book 2

Synopsis:  (From Good Reads)

The ultimate secret. The ultimate agent. Nathaniel Cade returns.

For 140 years, Nathaniel Cade has been the President's Vampire, sworn to protect and serve his country. Cade's existence is the most closely guarded of White House secrets: a superhuman covert agent who is the last line of defense against nightmare scenarios that ordinary citizens only dream of.

When a new outbreak of an ancient evil-one that he has seen before- comes to light, Cade and his human handler, Zach Barrows, must track down its source. To "protect and serve" often means settling old scores and confronting new betrayals . . . as only a centuries-old predator can.

What Did I Think?

I recently read the first book in The President’s Vampire series called Blood Oath and I enjoyed it so I was pretty anxious to get to the second one.  I was not disappointed even a little. The first one had a lot of back story and I wish that there could have been more of that in this one too just because it is fun to read, that said though, I did not miss it as much as I thought.  The action starts early in this one and only lessens long enough to let you drop your guard so that the next bit of action carries a bigger punch.  I also love that you can read this one without having read the first in the series. I love series books but I prefer when each book can also stand alone and both of the books in this series can do that.

I have seen the vampire Cade called Jack Bauer with Fangs and I agree, being a 24 fan I love that comparison! Cade is working for the president to keep the US safe from “the other side” meaning all of the paranormal things that the normal population are unaware of.  This installment he is keeping us safe from some scary lizard like creatures. They are Creepy and I think that is awesome!

Zach, Cade’s handler,  is turning into one of my favorite literary characters. In the first book I felt that he served as a mirror of my journey with Cade… disbelief to timid acceptance to tolerance to eventually (I think) acceptance and trust. This time he is more than just a side kick, he is starting to emerge to be as much of an equal as a vampire can have. Not in the physical sense but in the fact that he makes himself useful in scary situations instead of hiding behind Cade (like I totally would!)

As I mentioned earlier there is a lot of action in this one and I enjoyed it.  Tania is back and we get a few more glimpses into her.  Grenades, shoot-outs, hand to hand combat and explosions are some of my favorite things and this book has got them all. I will keep my fingers crossed for this one to make the jump to the big (or small) screen!

BOTTOM LINE: THIS SERIES IS GOING TO MUST READ STATUS AND I CAN NOT WAIT FOR THE NEXT INSTALLMENT!

YAY! I hope that you like them. They are pretty different from the other vampire books I have read lately. Not about romance. I enjoyed the break!
